RICHARD DOBSON WEB SITE UPDATE… 30 SEPTEMBER 2009

Writing this on the fly, just as we’re getting ready to fly out of here Monday…. Edith and I finished cleaning out the garden last week. I picked the last of the tomatoes this morning. They won’t ripen before we go but we’ll leave the green ones with Christine, our neighbor who will be watering our plants while we’re gone.… Another trip across the water, I don’t call it a pond. People say it’s a small world, but it’s still big enough, and so is the Atlantic Ocean. Looking forward to Texas, my first show October 15th in Llano will be in-the-round with Austin songwriter, George Ensle and W.C. Jameson who is hosting the event. George and I were both nominated for the Texas Music Awards writer of the year a couple of years back. One of my new heroes, Jameson has published some fifty books, and he’s a damn good songwriter too, with a voice reminiscent of Waylon. Toward the end of the month I’ll be playing some shows with old friends David Olney, a riveting performer and in my personal opinion, one of the best tunesmiths working today, and Sergio Webb, State of the Heart alumnus and one of my all-time favorite guys. If I sound like I’m gushing, count it up to excitement. Summer’s over; it’s a good time to be traveling. We hope to see you, old friends and new. Please check the schedule.

Ciao… Ricardo

Don Ricardo's Life & Times

Originally titled "Poor Richard's Newsletter", this series goes back to Galveston Island in the late 1970's. Some of the original pieces were printed in Peter O'Brien's Omaha Rainbow,an English fanzine devoted to independent music.

Published three or four times a year, one of my back burner projects is to edit these with a view towards making the entire collection available.
